Saturday night’s Strikeforce: Melendez Vs Masvidal event drew a very poor live audience of just 2,995 in San Diego for a $154,075 overall gate.
That’s a big blow when you consider that the basic salaries for the fighters tallied up to $580,000. The biggest earners on the night were lightweight champ Gilbert Melendez and former light-heavyweight belt holder Gegard Mousasi who each raked in $150,000.
Female 145lb champion Cris ‘Cyborg’ Santos was the night’s other notable earner, taking home $66,000 for the sixteen seconds it took her to earn her KO victory.
Meanwhile, on the injury front Jorge Masvidal, KJ Noons and Billy Evengelista are all suspended indefinitely for an injured right hand, blurred vision and eye irritation problems respectively.
