Yesterday we reported that ticket sales for last weekend’s Strikeforce: Overeem Vs Werdum event in Dallas, Texas were below-par, but there was better news for the promotion today as it was revealed that the live broadcast on Showtime scored high ratings.

An average of 624,000 viewers tuned into the live event on Saturday night which featured the two remaining quarter-final bouts of the strikeforce Heavyweight GP, with a peak audience of 729,000.

That ranks as the second highest average viewing figures ever for the Strikeforce – Showtime partnership, with only the first set of quarter-finals back in February which featured a main event of Fedor Emelianenko Vs Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva, having scored higher with 741,000 viewers.

Though that is a significant 117,000 drop in viewers from the February show, it still goes to show that there is still interest in the tournament despite the lengthy delay between the two sets of QF bouts and the early exit of the fan favorite Fedor.

It’ll be interesting to see where the figures go from here after Saturday night’s main event failed to live up to expectations and with another four month gap expected before the semi-finals get underway.
