The Fireball Kid Takanori Gomi returned to winning ways in style at tonight’s UFC On Versus 2 event with a quick KO win over a tough opponent in Tyson Griffin.

After a brief feeling out process the two men exchanged Gomi wound up a massive right hand that landed cleanly on Griffin’s chin sending him face first onto the canvas. Follow up punches were merely a formality as the referee stepped in to call a halt to the contest just 64 seconds after it began.

The result is a throwback to Gomi’s heyday in PRIDE where he became renowned for his knockout power, and reminds the rest of the lightweight division that he’s still a force to be reckoned with.

Gomi also now has the distinction of being the first person ever to KO Griffin who has now suffered back-to-back defeats in the octagon, taking his career record to 14-4.
