Backstage after Terry Etim’s hugely impressive 17 second guillotine choke win over Edward Faaloloto which earned him a $70,000 Dana White revealed that matchmaker Joe Silva was already lining up the UK fighter’s next opponent, but at the time they didn’t want to say who it was.
Today however we can reveal that Etim will now take on another Brazilian in the shape of Edson Barboza at UFC 142 in Rio on January 14th.
The 26 year-old Etim and 25 year-old Barboza are two of the lightweight division’s most promising up and coming fighters, with the Brit having lost just once in his last six fights while the Brazilian is a perfect 3-0 so far since first setting foot in the Octagon back in March.
Etim also currently holds four ‘Submission Of The Night’ awards to his name, while two of Barboza’s performances have merited ‘Fight Of The Night’ honors, ensuring this should be an entertaining battle when the UFC returns to Rio for the second time in the space of 12 months.
UFC 142 is currently scheduled to be headlined by a featherweight title fight as Jose Aldo defends his belt against Chad Mendes.
