Your probably already aware of the fact that Randy Couture has a featured role in Sylvester Stallone’s Hollywood action movie ‘The Expandables’ which hits the big screen next month, but it seems he’s not the only MMA star that makes an appearance in the film.

In one of the behind-the-scenes series of clips released to promote the movie Stallone reveals that while shooting in Brazil they decided to recruit a number of local MMA fighters, including Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira to be soldiers.

“We were casting for the dictator’s army, and we got down their all I saw were male models,” he says of the original casting process. “They didn’t look like soldiers at all and I thought ‘Oh my god what are we going to do? Then I thought, well Brazil is the hub of mixed martial arts fighting.”

The video then cuts to footage of both Nogueira and Anderson Silva who arranged a small event for Stallone to come and see some of the Brazilian fighters in action. After that Sly went on to cast several of them as extras.

“All these powerful MMA fighters volunteered to be in the film,” he says as the camera pans to several of them dressed in soldiers uniform on set, including Nogueira. “It changed the whole casting process. It may not seem like much on the surface, but when the camera goes by, it senses that these men can do great harm, that they are not just actors, they are the real deal.”
