UFC Superstar Randy Couture’s movie career has now officially taken off with the news that ‘The Expendables’ which he appears in has taken $35 million in it’s opening weekend to claim the top spot at the box office.

To be fair the fact that he was starring alongside Sylvester Stallone, Jet Li, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger may have had something to do with it, but it’s still an impressive achievement for the decorated former champion who’s had a handful or acting roles in recent years.

The $35 million haul outdoes another UFC star Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson’s recent debut on the big screen as B.A Baracus in ‘The A-Team’ which pulled in $25.7 million in it’s opening weekend earlier this year, outshone by ‘The Karate Kid’.

Despite a successful start The Expendables hasn’t exactly been a hit with movie critics, garnering an average of 43% on rottentomatoes.com, and 45% on Metacritic.

Couture has recently stated that when his fighting career does come to an end he hopes to continue pursuing a career in acting.
