In news that’s sure to shock the mixed martial arts world, UFC star Thiago Alves has been forced to pull out of his UFC 111 bout with Jon Fitch on Saturday night after he failed a pre-fight CAT scan.

The scan discovered an irregularity in his brain which a source close to the situation describe as being related to an artery.

Speaking to the TMZ website Dana White revealed that the discovery was very serious indeed for the talented welterweight fighter.

“If it’s true, it can be career-ending,” he said.

Despite the bad news his manager told MMAJunkie that the Brazilian is staying positive.

“”Thiago is very disappointed, but he remains in good spirits and hopes to get back in the cage very quickly.”

Needless to say this is sad news. Alves, who is just 26 years old is one of the most exciting fighters in the UFC, with a stand-up game that few can rival, and he’s a good guy outside of the cage too.

According to his manager the scan did not reveal anything that was immediately life-threatening, and may not be a serious condition but that officials had erred on the side of caution with only a few days left until the fight.

I’m sure we’re speaking on behalf of all our readers when we wish him all the very best and hope that he receives good news regarding this situation as soon as possible.
