One of the welterweight division’s most recognisable fighters, former No.1 contender Thiago Alves has been added to the recently announced UFC 138: Leben Vs Munoz event in Birmingham, England which takes place on November 5th.

Alves will welcome newcomer Papy Abedi to the UFC at the event. Abedi, who orginates from Congo but now lives in Sweden has so far compiled an unbeaten 8-0 record in MMA competition, with just one of his fights going to a decision.

So far Abedi has only fought in small shows in Europe however, so in many respects he’s being thrown to the wolves here against a vastly more experienced fighter like Alves.

The reason for Alves step down in competition is clear though, with the 27 year-old posting just one win in his last four fights.

On paper this looks like a good opportunity for him to get back on track and rebuild his confidence, but Abedi will be looking to produce a major upset and make an immediate name for himself in the promotion.
