Just days after finding out that a routine MRI scan had discovered an irregularity in his brain, Alves has announced that he will require medical attention to correct the problem.

“I went and saw a specialist this morning who told me I need to have the minor procedure,”Alves told the TMZ website.

It had initially been hoped that the scan had been misread, but it now seems that was not the case.  Alves is now expected to undergo the exploratory procedure on Wednesday morning in New York.

The good news for Alves is that the condition is not life-threatening, and after the procedure he is expected to be able to get back into training in as little as three weeks.

Overall this is a good result for the fighter under the circumstances and we wish Alves a speedy recovery and return to the octagon.
