After their last fight was declared a no-contest, light-heayweight’s Thiago Silva and Brandon Vera are now set to do battle at UFC On FX 3 on May 15th.
The two originally squared off in January of 2011 with Silva riding out to a comfortable victory, controlling Vera on the floor for large portions of the fight.
However, weeks later it emerged that Silva had falsified a post-fight urine test in order to disguise the fact that he had been taking steroids. He confessed and was handed a year-long suspension along with having his victory changed to a no-contest.
Vera had in fact been released from the promotion after the loss, but after the ruling the UFC invited him back and he’s since picked up a decision win over Eliot Marshall to restablish himself in the division.
Neither fighter can really move on until we find out who is the better man though and so it’s an obvious rematch for the UFC to put on, and it makes a good addition to the FX card.
So far it’s not clear whether this fight will headline the show, but it certainly has the potential to do so.
