It was an all too familiar story for Jens Pulver last night in the main event of Titan FC 18 as the UFC and WEC veteran found himself outstruck on the feet and then submitted by Brian Davidson all within the space of the first four minutes of the fight.
It was the fourth time Pulver had been defeated by some form of choke – on this occasion an RNC – in the space of two and a half years, and since he left the UFC in June of 2007 his record now stands at a woeful 3-7. Six of those seven losses came in the first round.
After the fight Pulver insisted that he would fight on until he deemed it time to retire, regardless of what others might think about it.
That’s fair enough, but sadly the reality is that the sport has passed this much loved fighter by, and he’s now headlining events purely on his name rather than any real expectations of him putting on an entertaining or competitive fight.
Elswhere Jake Rosholt looked to be strengthening his case for a return to the UFC as he dominated John Ott in the co-main event, leaving him battered, bleeding and bruised as the fight drew towards a close.
Unfortunately he then undid all his good work by firing an unintentional illegal knee against the fence that left Ott unable to continue with just 37 seconds of the fight left. That resulted in Ott winning the fight by disqualification, bringing an end to Rosholt’s four fight winning streak.
Earlier in the night his brother Jared Rosholt had fared better, taking just 1.37mins of the first round to TKO his opponent Kirk Grinlinton.
He’s now 3-0 in his young MMA career and is certainly one to keep an eye on for the future.
