The future of both the UFC’s light-heavyweight and heavyweight division’s has become a little clearer over the past couple of days with Dana White earmarking a couple of bouts that are likely to establish the No.1 contenders in each.

Firstly November’s UFC 139’s main event between former 205lb champ Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua and the returning Dan Henderson is set to establish a new front-runner at light-heavyweight.

However, White has made it clear that Rashad Evans is still first in line to face the winner of Saturday night’s Jon Jones Vs Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson title clash, so either Shogun or Hendo will have to wait for their turn.

Meanwhile White confirmed at today’s UFC 135 press conference that the end of year blockbuster showdown between Brock Lesnar and Alistair Overeem at UFC 141 will establish a new No.1 contender at heavyweight as we head into 2012.

By that stage we’ll already know who they will face as Cain Velasquez and Junior Dos Santos fight for the title on the first ‘UFC On FOX’ event which takes place on November 12th.

So, if everything goes to plan then the promotion are guaranteed some very big fights to get them off to a strong start in the early months of 2012, which considering it marks the official beginning of their FOX deal, looks set to be their biggest year yet.
