TJ Waldburger Pulled From UFC Fight Night 61 After Fainting In Elevator

UFC welterweight fighter TJ Waldburger was pulled from his bout at UFC Fight Night 61 in Brazil before he even made it to the scales yesterday after he passed out.

Waldburger, who was set to face Wendell Oliveira on the preliminary card of the show in Porto Alegre, claims that his weight cut for the fight was going well, but he then fainted in an elevator and hit his face off the corner of a mirror as he fell.

As a result of that incident the on-site doctor and the UFC’s own Burt Watson decided it was would be best if he didn’t fight. Waldburger says he feels fine and a CT Scan came back clear so he hopes to be back sooner rather than later.

The 26 year-old is in real need of a victory in the Octagon after suffering two losses in a row due to strikes, leaving him with a 4-4 record in the UFC to date. It’s not clear at this stage whether his fight with Oliveira will simply be rescheduled for some time in the near future or if they will be given new opponents instead.

Both Waldburger and Oliveira will be paid their show money for the event despite the cancellation and the show now proceeds with a five fight preliminary card followed by six fights on the main card.
