When Rousimer Palhares seized a hold of a heel hook submission against Tomasz Drwal and didn’t let go even after his opponent tapped many watching feared the worst for the middleweight’s leg.

Heel hooks are notorious for causing serious injuries and the way that Drwal was groaning in pain after the referee ended the bout suggested that he was suffering badly.

The good news today however is that an x-ray has shown no fractures to the Polish fighters knees or legs according to mmajunkie. The hope now is that he has just had a severe sprain, though he will have to wait for an MRI scan to discover the full extent of the damage he has sustained.

Meanwhile Palhares has been suspended for 3 months for not releasing the hold as quickly as possible after his opponent tapped.
