Wanderlei Silva has posted a new video blog to further detail his injury woes which have left him with no option but to pull out of his fight with Yoshihiro Akiyama at next weekend’s UFC 116 event.

The 33 year-old PRIDE legend reveals that he has torn his Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) and also has three broken ribs.

“I think now I am paying the bills for all these years of fighting,” the 45 fight veteran admits ruefully.

“I will have to have surgery and then start the recovery to be able to fight again in maybe 6 months…6 or 7 months depending on how the recovery goes.”

Nobody could ever doubt Silva’s passion and commitment to the sport – the fact that he would even consider fighting with a torn ACL proves that – so it’s sad to see him appearing to have taken this latest setback so hard.

It’ll undoubtedly be a tough road back from an injury like this, but at least he can rest a little easier knowing that he got a win under his belt in his last fight with Michael Bisping, and will be able to make a fresh push in the middleweight division when he returns next year.

It was announced yesterday that Chris Leben will not step in as a replacement to face Akiyama on the 3rd of July.
