We may only be a few weeks into The Ultimate Fighter season 11, but plans for TUF 12 are already underway. According to middleEasy.com UFC bosses have targeted the winner of the Paul Daley Vs Josh Koscheck fight at UFC 113 next month as the ideal candidate to coach opposite Georges St.Pierre.
That means the stakes for Daley and Koscheck on May 8th will be very high indeed with the winner guaranteed a career boosting role on the show, and a guarantee of the next shot at GSP’s welterweight title.
It’s not a huge surprise – Dana White hinted at the decision last month, stating he was working on something in relation to the Daley Vs Koscheck fight that he couldn’t talk about. It seems like a sensible choice for coaches though. GSP is of course one of the sports biggest stars, and while many of the UFC’s other headliners like Couture, Liddell, Ortiz and Penn have all appeared as coaches on the show in the past, St.Pierre has yet to do so.
Meanwhile either Daley or Koscheck, who are much more outspoken and abrasive than GSP, should help spice up the show. Koscheck was of course part of the cast for the first season of TUF, and quickly became infamous as the shows first villain due to his cocky nature and altercations with Chris Leben.
Daley on the other hand is a newer face on the UFC scene, and is a close friend and team-mate of GSP’s last opponent Dan Hardy. Like his UK ally Daley is not shy in front of the camera, but he replaces Hardy’s humor with a blunt, aggressive attitude that would provide a stark contrast to the champions clean-cut persona.
The only potential spanner in the works here may be if current Strikeforce middleweight champion Jake Shields signs for the UFC as has been rumored in recent days. If that goes ahead then look for him to jump ahead of both Daley and Koscheck in the title hunt.
