Two men have been arrested and charged in connection with the tragic hit-and-run death of former UFC fighter Ryan Jimmo this past weekend in Edmonton, Canada.
The driver, Anthony Getschel, 23 is charged with second degree murder, criminal negligence causing death, dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death and failure to stop at the scene of an accident involving a death.
The passenger, Jordan Wagner, 21 was charged with accessory after the fact to murder.
Getschel and Wagner are believed to have become involved in a verbal confrontation with the 34 year-old Jimmo in a parking lot in the early hours of Sunday morning. According to the police report, the two individuals didn’t know the MMA fighter prior to the incident.
As Jimmo walked back to his vehicle afterwards, Getschel is alleged to have accelerated and run him over with his pick-up truck before speeding off down the street, almost hitting another vehicle as he did so.
Jimmo’s death was declared to be caused by blunt force trauma as a result of being struck by the vehicle.
After an extensive search, Edmonton police located the pick-up truck, which had oversized tyres and an extended cab, on Monday, and that led to the arrest of the two perpetrators.
