Tyson Griffin Signs With The RFA Organization

Long-time UFC fighter Tyson Griffin is moving on to pastures new after signing a new three-fight deal with the Resurrection Fighting Alliance promotion in Nebraska.

Griffin will join a number of other former UFC fighters like Joe Stevenson, Jens Pulver, Maurice Smith, Houston Alexander and Dakota Cochrane who’ve also fought for RFA in recent times.

The 28 year-old was released from the UFC last year after a first round KO loss to Bart Palaszewski, a result made worse by the fact that he had also come in 3lbs overweight for the fight.

It marked the end of a surprisingly bad run for Griffin in which he’d mustered just one win in his last five fights for the promotion.

Prior to that Griffin had been an important member of the UFC’s 155lb division, going 7-2 and picking up five ‘Fight Of The Night’ bonuses. During one particularly impressive stretch he went on a four-fight winning streak, taking out Clay Guida, Thiago Tavares, Gleison Tibau and Marcus Aurelio along the way.

His sudden slump in form is one of the most puzzling that I can recall in recent memory, but he’s still young enough that he could get some wins under his belt in the RFA promotion and then work his way back into the UFC at a later date.
