The UFC are making their first trip down under on February 21st for UFC 110, and they have now officially announced the main card for the event.
The event, which takes place in the Acer Center in Sydney, is already the second fastest selling UFC event in the history of the company (UFC 83 in Montreal, Canada being the first), with some 16,500 tickets already having been snapped up by fans.
“We knew we had an unbelievably passionate fanbase in Australia, but we are blown away by the speed of the sell-out,” said the UFC’s Marshall Zelaznik. “We had a massive uptake of tickets to the Australian members of our Fight Club and newsletter readers, and tickets were completely gone within hours of going on sale to the public.”
Headlining the event is a fight with major significance at the top end of the heavyweight division as Cain Velasquez looks to maintain his unbeaten record against former interim champion, and Pride legend Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.
Meanwhile in the co-main event Michael Bisping will once again go up against a heavy handed striker when he faces Wanderlei Silva, who will be looking to make a big impression in his first fight at 185lb in the UFC.
Australian fans will have one of their own to cheer on the main card in the shape of former TUF competitor George Sotiropoulus who takes a large step up in competition when he faces off withTUF season 2 winner and former lightweight title contender Joe ‘Daddy’ Stevenson.
Another former winner in The Ultimate Fighter, Ryan Bader will also be looking to test himself against a veteran of the UFC, Keith Jardine, who is in desperate need of a win after losing three of his past four fights.
Rounding off the card is a match-up between fallen superstar Mirko Cro Cop, a legend who could be fighting for his future in the sport after a string of disappointments, and Ben Rothwell, a veteran and former star of the IFL promotion who is looking to prove that he can make the step up to become a contender in the UFC.
