UFC 112: Abu Dhabi Set To Be Confirmed; UFC 113 Moved To May 8th

It’s been no great secret that the UFC had been aiming to take their UFC 112 show to Abu Dhabi on April 10th, and it looks like it’s about to be officially announced according to the UFC’s Managing Director Of International Expansion, Marshall Zelazni.

“We’re going to have a big press conference in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday (Jan. 27th), with our new partners from the region, Flash,”Zelaznik told Dave Meltzer.

“Lorenzo and myself will be there with some of the biggest names on the UFC roster. I don’t want to give away the official announcement, but this will be a very unique show and not just because the card itself will be as good as any in UFC history.”

It is expected that this will be the promotions first ever outdoor event, with their new partner ‘Flash Entertainment’ planning to construct an outdoor arena for the event.  Zelaznik went into more detail on this in an interview with Yahoo’s Steve Cofield which you can listen to below:

Clearly this will be a major event for the company, and as such UFC 112 is set to bring a host of mixed martial arts talent to Abu Dhabi with both the lightweight and middleweight belts expected to be on the line.

UFC 112: Rumored Fights:

  • BJ Penn Vs Frankie Edgar (Lightweight Title)
  • Anderson Silva Vs Vitor Belfort (Middleweight Title)
  • Matt Hughes Vs Renzo Gracie
  • Mark Munoz Vs Kendall Grove
  • Rafael Dos Anjos Vs Terry Etim

Meanwhile the UFC have moved swiftly to avoid a potential clash with what could be one of the major boxing events of 2010, Floyd Mayweather Jr Vs Shane Mosley, which is rumored to be getting lined up for May 1st in Las Vegas.

That was also intended to be the date for UFC 113 from Montreal, Canada, but it has now been moved back to May 8th instead.

“We were trying to not go the same night as boxing but these [expletive] guys can’t get out of their own way,” White told the Cagewriter site. “I have never seen anything so unorganized, selfish and dysfunctional as boxing. It’s a joke!”

UFC 113 is set to feature one of the most eagerly awaited rematches in UFC history as Lyoto Machida and Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua once again do battle to definitively establish who is the light-heavyweight champion after their controversial first meeting at UFC 104 last year.

UFC 113: Rumored Fights:

  • Lyoto Machida Vs Shogun Rua (Light-Heavyweight Title Fight)
  • Paul Daley Vs Josh Koscheck
  • Kimbo Slice Vs Matt Mitrione
  • Patrick Cote Vs Alan Belcher
  • Jeremy Stephens Vs Sam Stout
  • Jonathon Goulet Vs Marcus Davis
