Up until the closing moments of their fight Frank Mir and Mirko Cro Cop had put on one of the most unexciting UFC headline bouts we’ve seen in quite some time.

Apparently that fact did not escape Mir’s attention, though he was relieved to get the win nonetheless.

“I guess a crappy win is better than a crappy loss,” Mir told reporters at the post-fight press conference. “Other than that, I’m really pissed off about my performance.”

According to Mir the major reason for his failure to get going for much of the fight was his failure to get his wrestling going which meant he was unable to take the fight to the floor.

“I got really frustrated because with pushing him against the cage, I drilled so much on what to do from there, and I was making mistakes I wasn’t making a month ago that I thought I had corrected,” Mir said.

He was able to pull off one thing he had worked on in practice however, and that allowed him to claim a KO win over the Croatian.

“The knee was just reactionary. I felt the back of his head, and just drilling so many times the switch knee [in training] I just fired it off.”

That moment in the final minute of the fight helped Mir to find some comfort in his performance.

“At least I can rest easy knowing I didn’t go to decision.”

Despite that it’s clear that it’s the negatives that are still weighing most heavily on his mind.

“I’m just a little upset that I think I should have done better on my part. Everybody else did their part. I could have done better.”
