Following a tough three round victory over Yoshihiro Akiyama a relieved and elated Michael Bisping gave Joe Rogan his thoughts on the fight.
“Right at the start of the first round he hit me with a shot here and I was seeing double,” Bisping said. “I thought, ‘Ah sh*t, this isn’t a good start. I expected a tough challenge, but I truly believed in my training and my skills and my ability to win this fight.”
The former Ultimate Fighter winner believes that the win puts him on track for a title run.
“I’m training my *rse off. No one works harder than me, and no one wants it more than me,” he said. “Hopefully, with a bit of luck, I’ll get the gold soon.”
Undoubtedly the shock of the night came when Carlos Condit knocked out Dan Hardy in the co-main event. According to Condit it wasn’t a surprise.
“We had been working on that,” Condit said of the left hook that ended the fight in the first round.
Clearly on a high Condit had kind words for both his opponent and the crowd who had passionately been backing the home favorite.
“I love you guys even though you’re booing me. Dan Hardy is a great competitor. Hats off to him. Much respect.”
Disappointment was etched on Hardy’s face as he then spoke to Joe Rogan, but though it was a tough loss he still retains his sense of humor.
When asked what went wrong he simply replied, “I got punched in the face.”
“That’s why it’s a sport. You can win or lose at anytime,” he added before apologizing to the crowd and vowing to do better next time.
