November’s UFC 123: Rampage Vs Machida event has been estimated to have pulled in “around 500,000 buys” according to The Wrestling Observer.

It should however be stressed that at this time this is just an estimate, but if accurate it would put it in the same neck of the woods as UFC 115: Liddell Vs Franklin which did 520,000 pay-per-view sales earlier in the year.

Given the fact that Rampage was coming off a major movie role in The A-Team, ESPN gave strong support during fight-week, the main event was between two former champions, and that UFC legends BJ Penn and Matt Hughes were fighting in the co-main event slot I’d ideally have hoped for something closer to the 600,000 mark.

Still, with Rampage, Machida and Penn all coming off of losses, and Rampage’s main talking point being how boring his opponent is, its perhaps no great surprise that we’re looking at solid rather than spectacular numbers here.
