Former Ultimate Fighters Joe Stevenson and Mac Danzig fought on tonight’s UFC 124 main card knowing that a loss could put their job in the promotion at risk after some disappointing results of late.
In the early exchanges Stevenson looked to be gaining a slight edge as he pressed forward aggressively and an overhand right in particular that landed cleanly gave him confidence to continue doing so.
As Stevenson came charging in again looking to land a telling blow, Danzig out of the blue simply stepped back and unleashed a left hook straight to the jaw that immediately sent ‘Daddy’ crashing face first onto the canvas. Danzig followed up with a couple of strikes, but they weren’t needed, Stevenson was out cold.
In many ways this spectacular finish was reminiscent of Paul Daley’s KO of Scott Smith in Strikeforce last week, and it was a dream conclusion for Danzig who needed the win badly following a dismal run of 2-4 in his last six fights in the octagon.
As for Stevenson this was a devastating loss, and coming off a convincing defeat to George Sotiropoulos before that 2010 has proven to be a tough year for the 28 year-old.
