Sean McCorkle talked a good fight leading up to his UFC 124 bout with Stefan Struve, but when the talking was all said and done and he had to step into the octagon last night he found it difficult to back up his boasts.

The 6ft 7″ heavyweight had been a surprise pick for co-main event status given that his one and only other fight in the UFC had kicked off the preliminary card of UFC 119.   Against a younger but more experienced opponent in Struve he found the going tough despite appearing to start strongly, and was eventually stopped by TKO just under four minutes into the first round.

Speaking later via twitter, McCorkle revealed the pressure of the big occasion had gotten to him.

“To answer a lot of you with 1 tweet, the pressure got to me, and I choked. Felt like I couldn’t breathe the minute the fight started.  Also, I thought the stoppage was early, but probably wouldn’t have made a difference anyway. Congrats to Stefan.”

Internet trash-talking as become McCorkle’s stock in trade, and so even in defeat he couldn’t resist having one final dig at fans who were critical of his performance.

“Oh, lastly, all my haters on here, I’m way better, cooler, better looking, and funnier than any of you. I’ve not yet begun to talk trash”

The defeat was the first of McCorkle’s 11 fight career.  He’s now 1-1 in the UFC.
