September 24th’s UFC 135 event has taken a body blow after Dana White revealed that co-main event star Diego Sanchez has been forced out of his fight with Matt Hughes due to injury.

“Diego Sanchez broke his hand. Looking for a replacement for Hughes,” White wrote just moments ago on Twitter.

It’s unfortunate as, truth be told, while the main event between Jon Jones and Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson is eagerly anticipated, the rest of the UFC 135 fight card isn’t the strongest we’ve ever seen.

If the UFC can’t find a suitable replacement to fight Hughes then the best bout they could push up to the co-main event slot would be Nate Diaz Vs Takanori Gomi – a fun fight, but one that features two fighters who have only won once in their last three Octagon outings.

With that in mind it’s likely that the UFC will push extra hard to find Hughes a worthy opponent, though with less than three weeks left until fight night it won’t be easy.

Potential targets given the UFC’s current scheduling would include Brian Ebersole, Roy MacDonald and Johny Hendricks who all posted wins early last month and are currently awaiting their next fight.
