it was revealed today that UFC 137 on October 29th will play host to a heavyweight encounter between Mirko ‘Cro Cop’ Filipovic and Roy Nelson.

Both men’s future in the promotion had been in question after they each feel to back-to-back defeats, but they have now been granted another chance, in what looks to be a ‘loser leaves town’ match-up.

Cro Cop’s glory days in the PRIDE organization are now a fond yet increasingly distant memory and despite being relatively competitive in his last two bouts with Frank Mir and Brendan Schaub they have both ended the same way – with the veteran fighter being KO’d in the closing minutes of each bout.

After his last defeat Dana White indicated that this would be the last time we’d see Cro Cop in the Octagon, but after the Croatian pleaded his case to be able to honor the remaining fight on his contract the UFC president relented.

Meanwhile ‘Big Country’ has demonstrated a remarkable ability to absorb punishment in his last two decision defeats, but little else, and with his cardio in particular being called into question against Frank Mir at UFC 130, White was all set to give the overweight star an ultimatum – cut down to 240lbs (from 265lbs) or take your walking papers.

Nelson appears not to have given into the pressure to go on a diet however and instead managed to buy himself extra time by revealing that he was suffering from ‘walking pneumonia’ in the days leading up to his fight with Mir.

This bout is expected to form part of the main card at UFC 137 which takes place on October 27th and will be headlined by a welterweight title fight as Georges St.Pierre takes on Nick Diaz.
