While Fuel TV is now considered the UFC’s home base for prelims in the same way that Facebook was last year, there is clearly some flexibility in the arrangement and as a result it’s been announced that UFC 143’s preliminary coverage will air live on FX.
It won’t be the first big event to do so however, because this coming weekend’s UFC 142 event in Rio, Brazil will also air on FX.
That’s good news for fans who don’t have access to Fuel TV, and good for the promotion in general as FX has a far bigger viewership than it’s little sister, and should ensure that both events prelims are watched by over a million viewers rather than a tens or hundreds of thousands as would be the case on Fuel.
UFC 143 lands on super-bowl weekend in Las Vegas and the prelim card will include fighters like Dustin Poirier, Alex Caceres, Matt Riddle and Rafael Natal. The broadcast will air prior to the main card on pay-per-view which is headlined by a welterweight interim title fight between Nick Diaz and Carlos Condit.
Coincidentally, FX will also be airing a three part ‘UFC Primetime’ special focusing on the Diaz Vs Condit fight in the weeks leading up to the bout, another indication that FOX is taking their new seven year deal with the promotion seriously.
