The weigh-ins have now taken place for tomorrow night’s UFC 148 event in Las Vegas and you can see what all the fighters tipped the scales at and watch the full video below.
In front of a packed crowd in Las Vegas both Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen successfully weighed-in for their middleweight title rematch.
Despite having to cut 20lbs in 24hrs Sonnen looked healthy, and more significantly was in the best shape of his career as he tipped the scales on the button at 185lbs.
After he came in at 184lbs Silva then purposefully marched over for his staredown with the challenger. At first it looked as if there wasn’t going to be the same drama we saw at the pre-fight presser earlier in the week, but then Silva threw a shoulder bump that landed on Sonnen’s jaw resulting in the two men being quickly parted.
Sonnen didn’t react, but he was moving his jaw around gingerly afterwards suggesting that he did feel the impact.
While fighters have become engaged in shoving matches in the past it’s almost unheard of for a strike to actually be thrown at the weigh-ins so this was a shocking moment, especially from the normally mild mannered champion and it’ll be interesting to see whether Dana White turns a blind eye to it or punishes him for his actions.
Either way it’s certainly going to get people talking and ensure that they are going to be even more eager to see this massive fight. The hype is at an all time high, let’s just hope that the fight now lives up to expectations.
Elsewhere Tito Ortiz looked in great shape for his retirement fight suggesting that he has taken his pre-fight preparations seriously, while his opponent Forrest Griffin also looked in good condition.
Further down the card Demain Maia made weight for his 170lb debut and looked good for the weight cut with considerably more muscle definition than we’re used to seeing from him at middleweight.
