UFC 148’s Main Card Will Now Boast Six Fights

The UFC has today sweetened the deal for fans looking to buy next month’s UFC 148: Silva Vs Sonnen II event by extending the main card to include six fights.

That means that the bantamweight battle between Ivan Menjivar and Mike Easton is now promoted to a PPV spot on the card where it’ll be rubbing shoulders with other big fights like Forrest Griffin Vs Tito Ortiz and Cung Le Vs Patrick Cote.

Extended main cards are something the UFC has started dabbling with in 2012, with UFC 144 in Japan having seven, while UFC 145 had six.  Both events posted favorable PPV buy-rates, which could of course be a coincidence, but it’s enough of an incentive for the promotion to continue to experiment with it.

As far as UFC 148 goes however, the main reason for buying the card for most people will still revolve around the main event, arguably the biggest fight of the year which sees Anderson Silva attempt to defend his middleweight title for a second time against his outspoken rival Chael Sonnen.

Given the hype surrounding it, that fight alone should ensure that this show does well, but this added bonus suggests that they are going all-out to ensure it’s a home run.
