UFC 149 is shaping up to be one of the most injury-plagued cards in the history of the promotion and adding himself to the casualty list yesterday was Canada’s own Claude Patrick.

Patrick had been expected to face James Head on the main card of the show, but now that he’s been ruled out Brian Ebersole has stepped in as his replacement.

The good news is that this new bout could be seen as an upgrade as Ebersole actually beat Patrick at the end of the last year by split decision and is currently on an 11 fight winning streak with four of those wins coming inside the Octagon.

With that in mind Head, who’s just 1-1 in the UFC but overall is 8-2, probably isn’t the step up the ladder that Ebersole would have been hoping for.

However, given that he’s barely a couple of weeks removed from his last fight and has a little over a fortnight to prepare for his next bout, he’ll probably be grateful that he’s not been thrown in with a higher ranked opponent on this occasion.
