UFC 178 Fight Card

While many people have been left disappointed that Jon Jones Vs Daniel Cormier won’t headline UFC 178 in L.A this coming Saturday night, if you look at the fight card as a whole it’s still an uncommonly well-rounded line-up from top to bottom.

The main event of the evening now sees flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson looking to defend his title for a fifth time against Chris Cariaso who getting the opportunity of a lifetime given that he’s only ranked No.8 in the division at this moment in time

The co-main event looks to provide guaranteed fireworks as one of the UFC’st most consistently entertaining fighters Donald Cerrone takes on Eddie Alvarez who had a similar reputation in the Bellator organization before vacating his lightweight title recently to join the UFC.

Fast rising star Conor McGregor faces what is undoubtedly the toughest test of his career so far when he faces the talented Dustin Poirier who’s keen to derail the Irishman’s hype train.

Tim Kennedy is currently placed at No.6 in the middleweight rankings after three wins in a row since joining the UFC, and now looks to push closer to title contention against the imposing former Olympic wrestling silver medalist Yoel Romero who’s ranked at No.10 and is unbeaten in four Octagon outings.

Cat Zingano makes a welcome return to the UFC after almost 18 months on the sidelines dealing with a serious knee injury and then personal tragedy after her husband committed suicide earlier in the year. It’s been a tough road back, but Zingano remains the division’s top contender and will face no easy comeback as she’s lined up against dangerous striker Amanda Nunes who’s claimed back-to-back first round TKO victories recently.

Such is the strength and depth in the UFC 178 card that the “main event” of the preliminary card is also pay-per-view worthy too, featuring the long awaited return of former bantamweight king Dominick Cruz who’s battled back from career threatening knee injuries that left him sidelined for three years and now faces a challenging comeback against Takeya Mizugaki.
