UFC 187 Salaries

The official UFC 187 basic salaries have been revealed and show a number of fighters raked in a six figure sum on the night.

Perhaps most surprising is Anthony Johnson who banked a hefty $500,000 fee for his night’s work despite losing out to Daniel Cormier who took home a comparatively modest $180,000.

It’s not clear why ‘Rumble’ received such a healthy payout, which puts him amongst the sport’s top earners as far as basic salaries go. By comparison, less than a year ago he would have only earned $53,000.

With that in mind, perhaps Johnson opted for an upfront payment rather than PPV points as a title challenger headlining a major show, or maybe the UFC offered him more money to convince him to fight Cormier once his original fight with Jon Jones fell through.

Whatever the reason, middleweight champion Chris Weidman also joined him on the $500,000 mark, while Vitor Belfort also took home a healthy $300,000 pay cheque despite his first round defeat.

Donald Cerrone trousered $152,000, while Dong Hyun Kim claimed $116,000 and Joseph Benavidez just made it into the six figure club with $106,000.
