UFC 189 Medical Suspensions

The UFC 189 medical suspensions resport has now been released and shows a number of fighters potentially facing up to six months on the sidelines as a result of the damage they took on Saturday night.

That includes defeated main event fighter Chad Mendes who’s believed to have broken his right thumb in the first round during his fight with Conor McGregor.

As you might expect, after a brutal fight, Rory MacDonald will be sitting out for the next 185 days due to both a badly broken nose and a broken foot. His opponent Robbie Lawler on the other hand only requires 47 days out due to that nasty sliced lip he was sporting in the later rounds of their ‘Fight Of The Night’ encounter.

Jeremy Stephens also receives a six month suspension for a suspected orbital bone fracture and another main card winner on the night, Thomas Almeida has been handed down the same length of time out for a broken nose.

Rounding off the longest suspensions, Time Means has a broken finger, Henry Birones a broken toe, and Cody Pfister a damaged knee, so they also take a 185 day time out, though as in all the cases mentioned above they can be cleared earlier by a qualified doctor.

Throughout it all I've remained captivated by the sport and I'm excited to cover what comes next here on MMA Insight.
