Ahead of this year’s UFC Fan Expo in Las Vegas the UFC have announced that they are going to overhaul the current structure for their Hall Of Fame.
Starting from this years Expo on July 11th the UFC’s plan is to separate inductees into four distinct categories:
Modern era wing: commemorating fighters who made their pro MMA debut in the modern era
Pioneers era wing: commemorating fighters who made their pro MMA debut in the pioneers era
Contributors wing: commemorating significant contributions outside of active competition
Fight wing: commemorating the greatest and most important bouts in the sport’s history
The 2015 Fan Expo, which takes place during International Fight Week, will see one inductee being officially added to each of these new categories.
In addition the 12 people who’ve already been added to the Hall Of Fame in the past will now be moved into the category that represents them best.
“The UFC Hall of Fame has an important job – it not only celebrates greatness but it helps pass stories of the greatest athletes and fights in UFC history on to the next generation of fight fans,” said UFC president Dana White. “We’re looking forward to announcing the class of 2015 and what is going to be a great induction event on July 11.”
Meanwhile it’s also been revealed that the UFC are currently hatching plans to build a permanent home for the UFC’s Hall Of Fame in Las Vegas that fans would be able to visit.
