After a hugely successful event in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil at UFC 134 in August the promotion are set to make a quick return to the region.

Originally it had been anticipated that the UFC would travel to another Brazilian destination next, but instead they have opted to come back to Rio for their first event of 2012 – UFC 142 on January 14th.

Though White had suggested prior to their last event in Rio that they could potentially have filled a stadium given the level of interest in the region it appears they won’t be looking to up the ante this time around, with the HSBC Arena still set to be the venue once again.

This certainly won’t be the UFC’s only Brazilian show of the year however, with the company planning to hold multiple events across the nation in 2012 to capitalize on the rapidly growing interest in the sport there.

While Anderson Silva headlined UFC 134 and is currently enjoying unprecidented levels of popularity in his native Brazil it’s doubtful that he will have healed from a recent shoulder injury in time to front this event so it will be interesting to see who does end up taking the main event spot.
