Last night’s UFC Fight For The Troops 2 event at Fort Hood in Texas was designed primarily to raise money for the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, and so far it seems to have been successful.
Today Martin Edelman of the IFHF revealed that from phone donations alone over $600,000 was pledged during the live Spike TV broadcast last night.
Meanwhile a quick look at the online auction the UFC are currently hosting shows that a further $126,400 has also been raised.
The overall total for the event is expected to be considerably more than these early numbers. The last time the UFC held such an event in December of 2008, over $4million was raised for the charity.
With the fundraising efforts continuing to be a success, and the UFC being committed to supporting the troops, and Edelman tells MMAfighting.com that he fully expects there to be more in the future.
“This is Fight for the Troops No. 2, we’ll probably do No. 3 next year and we’ll just keep going until all the needs of our young wonderful warriors and their families have been taken care of,” he said.
