Following last night’s UFC Fight Night 109 event in Stockholm, Sweden, the recipients of the evening’s $50,000 bonus awards were announced.
Earning ‘Fight Of The Night’ honors was the main event battle between Alexander Gustafsson and Glover Teixeira, which didn’t finally reach a conclusion until the fifth round.
Gustafsson put on a stellar display of striking on the night, landing clean punches all fight long from range, with his uppercut being a particularly deadly weapon that repeatedly snapped Teixeira’s head back.
Teixeira struggled to get his own striking game going against a constantly moving target, but he showed incredible toughness to survive as long as he did and never gave up on pushing forward until the final five minutes when three uppercuts in a row followed by a right hand finally knocked him out.
Meanwhile, Bojan Velickovic claimed one of two ‘Performance Of The Night’ awards after he turned Nico Musoke’s legs to jelly with a right hand deep into the third round.
Musoke did a classic rendition of the chicken dance as his legs refused to obey orders and then fell to the floor, with the referee quickly rushing in to save him from further punishment.
Earlier, Damir Hadzovic produced a stunning come-from-behind victory over Marcin Held in the opening fight of the evening when he landed a huge knee seven seconds into the final round that knocked out the former Bellator star.
