UFC Fight Night 72 Bonus Awards

Following tonight’s UFC Fight Night 72 event in Glasgow, Scotland the recipients of the evening’s $50,000 bonus awards were announced.

Picking up ‘Fight of The Night’ honors was the female strawweight scrap between Joanne Calderwood and late replacement Cortney Casey. Casey put in a creditable performance, putting the hometown favorite on the back foot in the opening minutes of the fight and threatening on the mat too, but as the fight wore on Calderwood began to grab the contest by the scruff off the net, mixing things up with striking, clinch work and spells working from on top to secure a decision victory.

Meanwhile, the first ‘Performance Of The Night’ award was handed to another Scottish fighter Steven Ray who had the crowd in full voice after he TKO’d Leonardo Mafra just 2.30mins into the first round in the opening bout of the main card, badly wobbling the Brazilian twice with hooks en-route to victory.

Finally, ‘the other ‘Performance Of The Night’ bonus goes to another rising Irish star Joseph Duffy who put in an impressive performance against Ivan Jorge, threatening on the feet before capitalizing on a failed takedown attempt to sink in a triangle choke and force the tapout mid-way through the opening round.
