After watching the 135lb division’s top fighters headline last nights UFC On Versus 6 event in the nation’s capital UFC President Dana White confirmed to reporters that the 125lb flyweight division will soon be added to the roster.
“We’re going to go out and start [signing] guys and bringing in guys we want to sign, and we’ll kick that that thing off. I don’t exactly how we’re going to do it yet, but we’re going to do it, and we’re going to do it soon.”
One fighter who’s been tipped as a future flyweight champion is Demetrious ‘Mighty Mouse’ Johnson who put on a spirited display against the bantamweight champ last night, but at 5ft 3″ tall is clearly undersized for the weight class.
Last night he claimed he wasn’t ready to drop down to 125lbs yet, but White revealed that he expects a number of current 135lb fighters to do so once the flyweight divison has been installed.
“You’ll see guys from from 135 (come down) to 125. Lots of guys will drop. There are lots of guys on ‘TUF’ who can drop to 125.”
