Today the UFC officially confirmed the rumored ‘Fight For The Troops’ event, AKA Fight Night 23 for January 22nd at Fort Hood, Texas.
It was also confirmed that a lightweight clash between top lightweight talents Kenny Florian and Evan Dunham will headline the event as they look to get back into the title picture in the New Year.
This will mark the second time that the promotion has hosted such an event after December 2008’s show in North Carolina proved to be a tremendous success, raising over $4,000,000 for the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund.
“It’s always a great honor for us to entertain the men and women of the military by bringing them some great fights while raising money for the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund,” said UFC President Dana White on the official press release for the event. “It’s the least we can do for the people who are defending this country and making so many sacrifices for our freedom, and this is a cause the UFC will always support.”
Needless to say the IFHF charity are over the moon to be the focal point of the fundraising efforts once again.
“We’re thrilled to be the beneficiary of the generosity of Spike TV and the UFC. Their fans have always supported our troops and we thank them for their unwavering commitment to what we do to help our brave men and women in uniform and their families,” said Richard Santulli, Chairman, Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund.
As usual with UFC Fight Night events the main card will air live on Spike TV and broadcast all around the globe.
