Update: Check out the finalized numbers for ‘UFC On FOX 6’ here.

Last night’s ‘UFC On FOX 6’ event in Chicago was watched by an average of 3.77 million viewers according to the overnights.

The show also pulled a 1.8 ratings amongst adults 18-49 and 6% share of the audience according to TVByTheNumbers which allowed it to easily win the night.

Note: It should be stressed that these are just initial numbers and could well go up in the coming days. We won’t know for certain what the final ratings are until later in the week. They also only focus on the period between 8-10pm, but the main event over-ran for a further 15mins which will be factored into the final rating.

By comparison the overnight’s for December’s ‘UFC On FOX 5’ event saw an average of 3.41 million viewers, though that jumped to 4.4 million when the final numbers came through later in the week and that was hailed as a success.

So it looks like ‘UFC On FOX 6’ is on course to potentially outdo that event which would be an excellent result for the UFC and the network and starts the year of on a strong footing with both FX and Fuel TV also having produced good ratings so far this month.

Prior to the show there was some concern that fielding a flyweight title fight between Demetrious Johnson and John Dodson in the main event might have a negative effect on the ratings, but to their credit they went on to produce the ‘Fight Of The Night’ during an eventful 25 minutes of fighting and the numbers we’re seeing today suggest it wasn’t an issue.

Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson had the most star power on last night’s card, though as it turned out he ended up suffering a convincing decision loss to Glover Teixeira. His presence may well have had some effect on the ratings though and it will be interesting to see the half-hour breakdowns if and when they become available early next week.

Earlier in the broadcast Anthony Pettis lived up to his ‘Showtime’ nickname mixing in a cartwheel kick and a flying knee of the fence en-route to a first round body-kick KO finish against Donald Cerrone, while Ricardo Lamas offered up the bloodiest finish ever on FOX after opening up a huge cut on Erik Koch on his way to a TKO stoppage.

All in all it was an entertaining night of fights and helped expose the likes of Johnson, Teixeira, Pettis and Lamas to a wider audience which can only be a good thing given that they are all currently competing at the highest level in their respective divisions.
