The UFC have announced that a featherweight bout between Dustin Poirier and ‘The Korean Zombie’ Chan Sung Jung will headline May 15th’s ‘UFC On Fuel TV 3’ event.
At just 23 years of age Poirier is one of the rising stars in the promotion at this moment in time, winning all four of his fights in the UFC to date, showing off surprisingly well-rounded skills in the process.
He fought at last weekend’s UFC 143 event where he pulled of a slick technical submission against Max Holloway, tapping him from a mounted triangle with an ambar to win ‘Submission Of The Night’ honors.
Meanwhile, ‘The Korean Zombie’, who’s just 24 years old himself, quickly won a cult fan following when he starred in a ‘Fight Of The Year’ performance in 2010 against Leonard Garcia in the WEC.
The Zombie would lose that fight in a controversial decision after three rounds of back-and-forth brawling, but he’d get his revenge in the UFC and further enhance his reputation in the process a year later in a rematch when he tapped Garcia with an extremely rare ‘Twister’ submission.
All in all this has the makings of a very fun fight, and for Poirier in particular, a win could put him in line for a title shot against Jose Aldo later in the year.
