The UFC On Versus 3: Sanchez Vs Kampmann delivered in terms of entertainment last night on Versus, but it was a disappointing night from a ratings perspective.

Figures released today show that an average of just 681,000 viewers watch the promotion’s third event on the Versus network, their lowest audience so far.

The first UFC show on Versus back in March of last year produced an average audience of 1.24 million, while the second dropped to 991,000 viewers.

The reason behind the sharp decline on this occasion may be down to the timing of the event. Usually the Versus events air on a Sunday evening, but on this occasion it was switched up to a Thursday night, something that UFC are unaccustomed to.

In general though the UFC have struggled to gain the same traction on Versus as they have on their regular Spike TV home which produced a record 2 million viewers for an hour long live prelim show ahead of UFC 126 in February.

Even UFC 127’s prelim show on the little known Ion TV this past Saturday managed to pull in bigger numbers with an average of 714,000 viewers.

In fairness Versus coverage of the show was actually good. They produced relatively slick pre and post-fight shows to accompany the live event, and the overall production and pace of the live broadcast was good.

It was announced during last night’s broadcast that UFC On Versus 4 will air on June 26th, back in it’s customary Sunday night spot and it will be interesting to see whether the UFC and Versus now pull out all the stops to ensure that the ratings get back on track.
