Nate Marquardt Vs Rick Story is the big fight of the weekend at UFC On Versus 4 and both men are keen to put on a show and put themselves into title contention at 170lbs.
Story accepted this fight at short notice after Anthony Johnson pulled out injured, and he’s well aware that this is a big test for him.
“Nate’s a great opponent. He knows what he’s doing, he’s well rounded, he’s been hear for a long time, but it’s going to be a fight and I’m here to fight him and…let’s get it on,” Story tells UFC.com.
Marquardt is also respectful of what Story, who’s currently on a six-fight winning streak in the Octagon, can do, but he believes he matches up well with him.
“He’s tough, I’d say that’s his biggest thing. He’s tough, but he doesn’t have the experience and he doesn’t have the skill-set that I do.”
Dropping down a weight-class often brings a sense of uncertainty with regards to how a fighter will perform, but after cutting to 170lbs for this bout there’s a real sense here that Marquardt is brimming with confidence and is eager to show what he can do.
“I feel great. My stamina’s through the roof…between practices I feel great, during practice I feel great…I’m ready to go,” says Marquardt. “I can end the fight with any one punch. I intend to go out and dominate this fight.”
Story on the other hand is hoping to put the former middleweight No.1 contender on the back foot and give him a rough introduction to his new weight class.
“I have to impose my will on my opponent. I have to make my opponent react to what I do, and if i can keep that happening then [the fight] is going to go in my favor.”
We’ll find out who’s able to back up their words when the two meet in the Octagon in the main event in Pittsburgh on Sunday night.
