Sunday night’s UFC On Versus 5 event drew an average of 766,000 viewers on the Versus network according to official figures released today.
That’s up slightly on the 744,000 who tuned into the UFC’s previous show on Versus back in June, but still a little under 500,000 viewers short of the original UFC On Versus: Jones Vs Matyushenko event from March of 2010.
It also continues to show that the Versus platform isn’t able to keep up with the kind of ratings that the UFC are used to seeing on their traditional Spike TV home over the years which tends to fall in or around the 1.2 – 2 million mark.
It was recently announced that next year the Versus station will be rebranded as ‘NBC Sports’ and it would be interesting to see if that would have a positive effect on the UFC’s ratings, though at this stage the promotion does not have a deal with the network for 2012.
The UFC’s current deal with Spike TV does run out at the end of the year however and ‘NBC Sports’ are likely to be amongst a number of other channels who the UFC will be considering as potential partners going forward.
