UFC Planning 40 Events In 2016 Says Fight Pass Exec

The UFC’s new Senior Vice President And General Manager for the UFC Fight Pass subscription service, Eric Winter has revealed the number of events the promotion has planned for 2016.

“There are 40 UFC events next year, and every single one will have a Fight Pass component,” Winter revealed during an interview with MMAfighting.com. “Four of them will be Fight Pass exclusives.”

That’s good news for those who fear the UFC could oversaturate their events schedule as it’s roughly the same number as 2015 which is set to deliver 41 events in total.

The philosophy at UFC HQ may well be ‘If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,’ as this has been a standout year for the promotion with several events reaching in or around the million mark on pay-per-view, while viewership on FOX Sports 1 for live shows has also breached the million barrier on a number of occasions.

Winter’s remit is to focus specifically on the Fight Pass service though and he says more information about what they have planned for the subscription site in 2016 will be made public soon.

“I owe them a strategic plan for 2016,” Winter said. “I presented them my knowledge of Fight Pass to date and what I’m going to execute. It’s a little early to share, but you may hear some news in the upcoming days and the next week of some cool live streaming stuff. The goal is live streaming with kick ass technology.”

It seems that Winter is aiming to have live programming of one kind of another airing 365 days a year on Fight Pass and envisages having over 20 other MMA organizations signed up to the service which would allow them to air a live event every Friday or Saturday night throughout the year.
