UFC Plans October Return To Rio De Janeiro And More Brazilian Events In 2013

At today’s UFC 147 pre-fight press conference in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, the UFC’s Marshall Zelaznik told the assembled media that they will return to the country before the end of the year.

“The next event we will do this year will be in Rio. That will be in October,” Zelaznik stated.

It’s worth noting that earlier today we reported that featherweight champion Jose Aldo expects to return to action in October so he could well have a prominent role to play on that card if that’s the case.

Looking further ahead, Zelaznik also indicated that they are likely to ramp up the number of events in the region beyond this year’s three shows in 2013 as they look to continue to capitalize on the unparalleled popularity of the sport in Brazil.

“Next year we’re talking about potentially twice as many events in Brazil, if not more. We’re trying to bring the events to different cities.”
