Brazil, home of many of the world’s leading mixed martial artists looks set to host a UFC event in 2011.
According to GracieMag the sports leading promotion are planning to host an event in November of next year at the HSBC Arena in Rio De Janeiro. If true it would be the first time the UFC has held an event their since UFC: Brazil back in October of 1998.
If this proves to be the case there’ll be no shortage of home talent to choose from, with current featherweight (Jose Aldo), middleweight (Anderson Silva) and light-heavyweight (‘Shogun’ Rua) champions all hailing from Brazil, alongside current No.1 contenders at middleweight (Vitor Belfort) and heavyweight (Junior Dos Santos), plus other major stars like Lyoto Machida and Wanderlei Silva to name but a few.
Other expected destinations on the map for the UFC in 2011 include return visits to Australia in February and Abu Dhabi in March, plus the promotion’s first visit to Ontario, Canada which is rumored to be taking place in April.
With the UK also believed to be getting more events next year, plus various other global destinations mentioned as possibilities recently 2011 is shaping up to be another hugely significant year for the company.
