UFC Returning To Macau In August, Then Japan In September

The UFC have only just completed their second event in Macau, but they’ve already announced that they plan to hold another show there later this year, followed by their seemingly now annual trip to Japan.

The UFC’s man in the field in Asia, Mark Fischer, revealed the news post-fight at yesterday’s ‘TUF China Finale’ after noting that their latest show in Macau was sold out with 6,000 fans in attendance, though an official gate wasn’t announced.

“Based on the success of our first event in Macau and tonight, we can confirm we are going to be be back here in August,” Fischer told MMAjunkie. “We’re holding the date of Aug. 23 with an even bigger event. I don’t know if we can top this, but we’re certainly going to try.

In addition, Fischer went on to confirm that they’d be showing Japanese fans some love too, stating that, “We’ll return to Japan on Sept. 20 with a major event.”

Both are expected to be ‘Fight Night’ shows, and while it’s not confirmed yet, at least one, if not both have a good chance of airing via the ‘UFC Fight Pass’ subscription service which also played host to yesterday’s event.

Heading into 2014 the UFC had stated that they were going to increase their presence in the Asian market and they’ve certainly made good on that, with four shows in that region now set to take place in the calendar year including yesterday’s TUF Finale and last month’s trip to Singapore.

Over the years I've watched the UFC develop into the powerhouse it is today, organizations like PRIDE, Strikeforce and WEC rise and fall, and Bellator emerge as a new force on the MMA landscape. Throughout it all I've remained captivated by the sport and I'm excited to cover what comes next here on MMA Insight.
